Gangtok, May 02: Following the collapse of the Toong Bridge in North Sikkim, a massive traffic jam has ensued, causing significant delays in travel to the region.

The collapse of the bridge, attributed to flooding in the Teesta River, has led to the disruption of vehicular movement in North Sikkim. Consequently, new restrictions have been imposed under Section 34(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

With the Toong Bridge rendered impassable, traffic between Mangan and Chungthang via Toong-Naga has come to a standstill.

The only available alternative route, passing through Sangkalang-Saffo-Shipgyer, is narrow and unsuitable for two-way traffic. This has resulted in severe congestion, sparking concerns about potential accidents and disasters.
