Agartala, Nov 17: Tripura and Mizoram, are on high alert as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued warnings for the imminent threat of cyclonic storm ‘Midhili.’ The alerts indicate the likelihood of thunderstorms and intense rainfall over the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, both Tripura and Mizoram have been placed on ‘Red Alert,’ signaling a critical situation. The forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in these states, with extremely heavy falls (exceeding 204.4mm) expected on November 17.

Specifically, IMD anticipates extremely heavy rainfall (>=21cm in 24 hours) over South, Gomati, Sepahijala, and Dhalai districts, while the prediction for North, Unakuti, Khowai, and West Tripura districts is heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (11-20 cm in 24 hrs) on November 17.

On November 18, all districts of Tripura are likely to experience heavy rainfall (7-11 cm in 24 hours).

In addition to Tripura and Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura should brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall on both November 17 and 18, with the possibility of extremely heavy falls in isolated areas.

South Assam and East Meghalaya are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall on both November 17 and 18, according to the meteorological outlook. The IMD alerts serve as a precautionary measure, urging residents and authorities to take necessary steps to mitigate potential risks associated with the approaching cyclonic storm.
