Tripura State Rifles

Agartala, Oct 30: The Tripura State Rifles (TSR) is set to play a vital role in maintaining security during the upcoming elections in Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh. A total of 685 TSR jawans and officers from different battalions will be deployed for this important task. They are scheduled to begin their journey to Mizoram on October 31 and will subsequently proceed to Madhya Pradesh.

One challenge in this deployment is the lack of a railway connection in the region. The TSR personnel will travel from Agartala to Aizawl by road initially. From there, they will embark on a train journey, commencing from the Silchar station in South Assam on November 9.

The TSR, particularly its India Reserve (IR) battalions, has a notable track record of carrying out election duties in over 19 states. They have played a pivotal role in providing crucial security during both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

One of the key strengths of the TSR is its expertise in counter-insurgency operations. The troopers have played a significant role in bringing an end to the insurgency in Tripura, which persisted for over four decades. Their experience in handling such security challenges makes them valuable assets during the electoral process.

In addition to the TSR, select battalions of the Border Security Force (BSF) have also been deployed for election duties in various states, including Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. These BSF battalions departed from the Agartala station on a special train just two days ago, according to official sources.

The deployment of these well-trained forces is essential to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of elections in the respective states, thereby upholding the democratic process. The TSR and BSF personnel bring their extensive knowledge and experience to maintain law and order during these critical events.
