Aizawl, Oct 30: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday announced that road construction projects worth 20,000 crores will commence from next year which will connect 9 districts in the Mizoram.
Addressing an electioneering public meeting at the Bangladesh border West Phaileng village in Dampa assembly constituency Gadkari said that the road will also connect Manipur and Nagaland in the country and will also connect Myanmar in the International boundary.

He said that infrastructure is the most important part of development and that the central government under PM Narendra Modi has completed 7 world records in road construction.
Gadkari also said when he took charge as Minister in 2014, the National Highway (NH) length was 986 kms and now in 2023, the NH length is 1478 km. He also said 355 km of road construction costing 8,000 crores was completed in Mizoram after he took charge as Minister for MoRTH.

“We are in the process of making 944 km of road construction in Mizoram costing 20,078 crore. We also have completed DPR for 20,000 crores which will be used for 750 kms length of road construction,” he added.
He also said the Aizawl – Tuipang road which connects 6 districts of Mizoram costing 7,361 crore will be completed by 2024. He also said the construction gives better connectivity to Myanmar which will create economic development as well as job opportunities in the state.
Nitin Gadkari also said the Aizawl by-pass road, 2.5 km tunnel and road length of 34 kms amounting to 2,500 crore will be completed by 2025 which will solve the problem of traffic jams in the state capital.
He also said that Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTT) costing 1,132 crores will be completed by November 2023. “This road will be connecting Sittwe port in Myanmar,” he added.
The Union Minister also said Silchar (Assam)-Vairengte (Mizoram) road construction amounting to 3,500 crores was already sanctioned in 2022 but there is a land problem between the state revenue department and the forest department. He also said that the state cannot give the land and the project is delayed.
He further said that another project which was already given to the state is also being delayed at Zorinpui connecting Longmasu in the southern part of the state amounting to 790 crore. He further said that land problems would be solved if the BJP voted to power.
Union Minister said his dream is to create opportunities for the farmers, adding that his party plans to change the economic transformation of the northeast. “We will change the infrastructure of Mizoram to an International standard,” he said.
The Minister added that the BJP is only committed to the development of all the citizens of the country. He said that the BJP will provide livelihood opportunities under the LOTUS Scheme.
