Tezu Airport

Itanagar, Sept 24: Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, made a significant visit to Arunachal Pradesh, touching down at Tezu Airport to inaugurate upgraded infrastructure. This newly developed infrastructure encompasses several key elements designed to enhance the airport’s capabilities and services.

Among these improvements are an extended runway, a new apron, a modern terminal building, a fire station, and an air traffic control (ATC) tower.

The development of this infrastructure spanned 212 acres of land, and it now possesses the capacity to handle operations for aircraft of the ATR-72 type, a crucial advancement for the region’s aviation infrastructure.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) undertook the extensive work required for the airport’s expansion and modernization, ensuring that it aligns with international standards and can meet the growing demands of the region.

One important detail to note is that Tezu Airport first became operational in 2018 under the regional connectivity scheme known as UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik). This initiative aims to promote regional air connectivity by making air travel affordable and accessible to a broader range of citizens. Tezu Airport has played a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity within Arunachal Pradesh and with neighboring states.

The airport maintains regular scheduled flights connecting Tezu to Dibrugarh, Imphal, and Guwahati. Alliance Air and Flybig Airlines are the carriers providing these services, further enhancing accessibility and mobility for the residents of Tezu and the surrounding areas.

It not only enhances the region’s connectivity but also promotes economic growth, tourism, and trade opportunities. The modernized Tezu Airport is well-equipped to accommodate the needs of both passengers and airlines, providing a crucial link for the people of Arunachal Pradesh to the broader air transportation network of India.

The visit and inauguration by Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and infrastructure development in the country, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Arunachal Pradesh and other similar regions across India.
