Bangladesh couple

Agartala, June 10: A Bangladesh couple returned home after recovering from COVID-19 in Tripura. The couple, travelling from Chennai after treatment, had tested positive upon arrival at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) airport in Agartala.

Karunasindhu Chowdhury, a resident of Muktarpur in Bangladesh’s Sunamganj district, had gone to Chennai for cancer treatment. He was accompanied by his wife Sandhya Rani Das Chowdhury. On their way back, his wife was found infected with the Coronavirus during a sample test at the MBB airport in Agartala. After a few days, Karunasindhu was also found infected with the Coronavirus.

Karunasindhu was treated at GB Hospital in Agartala with the help of West Tripura MP Pratima Bhoumik. On Wednesday, three days after their recovery, they returned to Bangladesh through the Agartala Integrated Check Post (ICP).

The coordinator of the Covid War Room at Khudiram Basu English Medium School said that their samples were tested upon arrival at Agartala MBB Airport. The coronavirus infection was found in his wife’s body. He was later diagnosed with Coronavirus. According to the coordinator, Karunasindhu was admitted to ILS (private) Hospital due to his deteriorating condition.

“There, a lot of money was spent on treatment that he could not afford. The matter came to our notice while taking note of the physical condition of Corona victims on the telephone from the war room,” the official said.

“Everything was reported to MP Pratima Bhoumik to help the patient. She arranged for the patient to be transferred to the GB Hospital where he recovered and returned home today,” the official added.

Meanwhile, MP Pratima Bhoumik expressed her happiness at being able to help the citizens of Bangladesh.

She said that she found out about the patient by visiting the Covid War Room. Immediately after discussing with the ILS authorities, the bill amount was reduced from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 4 lakh. Arrangements were made to transfer the patient to the GB Hospital.

She said that all his tests have been done at GB Hospital, and Karunasindhu Chowdhury was released three days ago.

According to the MP, when she spoke to the patient on the telephone, he was anxious about being able to return home. He couldn’t believe that he would be able to return home.

“The Bangladeshi citizen was also suffering from diabetes along with cancer. He was admitted to Covid ICU of GBP Hospital. From there he was transferred to the non-covid ward. He recovered after treatment at GBP Hospital,” Bhoumik said.

She also said that all arrangements were made by contacting the Bangladesh High Commission to send Karunasindhu Chowdhury and his wife to Bangladesh. Finally, today the couple returned to Bangladesh.
