Aizawl, June 12: In Mizoram, five Myanmar nationals with arms and ammunition were apprehended last night in a joint operation by Assam Rifles and state police from a bordering village in southern Lawngtlai district.

Police sources said the intruders, suspected to be cadres of armed outfit Arakan Liberation Army (ALA) of Myanmar were nabbed from Kakichhuah village in Lawngtlai district near Indo-Myanmar international border on the Indian side.

Security personnel also recovered a 9mm Pistol, a Point 38 Revolver, 55 rounds of bullets, and five hand grenades from the possession of the captives.

Additional SP C. Lalruatkima informed that captives were identified as Kaiwar-Maih (33), Kai-Epai (19), Kai-Zojeritapai (23), Kai-Neu-Meu-Melang-Sue (17), and Kai-Chawntun (31). He said the captives were handed over to Lawngtlai police station this morning and later produced to the district court with charges lodged in different sections under the Arms Act and Foreigners Act. The district court ordered them for jail remand for further interrogation by police.

The captives were brought to Lawngtlai Police Station at 6:00 this morning and were charged under relevant sections of the Arms Act and Foreigner Act. They appeared before District Court today and were currently held in Lawngtlai District Jail.
