Imphal, June 23: Manipur police continue to ensure strict compliance to lockdown norms amid a rise of COVID-19 cases in the state and have so far collected Rs 2,29,93,910 as a penalty from 1,47,706 lockdown violators since the coronavirus pandemic hit the state.
As many as 274 people were detained for violating COVID-19 norms and Rs 1, 02,300 collected as a penalty from the offenders as per law.
With 190 violators in a single day, Imphal West district collected the highest amount of Rs 76,000 as a penalty on Tuesday, followed by Bishnupur district with 35 offenders and a fine of Rs 14,000.
The violators, including those who failed to wear a face mask in public places, not maintaining social distancing, and spitting in public places were detained by the police as preventive measures against COVID-19 spread in the state.
They were released later after a stern warning, said the police.
Those who violate the guidelines and restrictions shall be dealt with with strong legal action under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws, the police added.

Meanwhile, of the 16 districts in the state, there was no report of violators being detained in 11 districts by the police in the last 24 hours.
The districts include Chandel, Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, Noney, and Jiribam.
