Kohima, Feb 24: A day ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s election campaign in Nagaland, sporadic incidents of violence have been reported from the Wokha district, forcing the authorities to prohibit an assembly of five or more people and movement of non-essential vehicles in Tyui and Wokha assembly constituencies from dusk to dawn till March 3, the day after counting of votes.
Modi is scheduled to address a poll rally in the Chumoukedima district on Friday to campaign for the February 27 assembly election in the state. The PM will campaign for the BJP-NDPP combine, which is contesting in all 60 seats.

The district administration has also prohibited the gathering of five or more persons at all times till further orders in the area of the DC office complex and 100 meters in its vicinity, including the Wokha public ground.
Wokha district deputy commissioner Ajit Kumar Ranjan, who is also the district election officer, tweeted, “Three sporadic incidents of confrontation between two groups was reported at Wokha Town. Security forces responded immediately with force and brought the situation under control within 10-15 minutes.”

He added in another tweet, “Six persons have been detained and further investigation is going on. All those involved shall be dealt with strictly under the law. The situation in Wokha remains under control with security forces fully deployed in the area.”

“As a precautionary measure for maintenance of peace, partial restrictions on assembly of five or more and non-essential vehicle movement has been imposed from 5 pm to 5 am. The campaign activities shall continue with RO permission in accordance with MCC guidelines w/o restriction,” he said in his third tweet.
