New Delhi, Jan 21: Sania Mirza’s family recently disclosed that the tennis star and former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik have been divorced for several months, shedding light on Malik’s recent announcement of his third marriage to Pakistani TV actor Sana Javed.
The revelation came after Malik shared the news of his wedding with Sana Javed on social media, confirming longstanding rumors about his separation from Sania Mirza. The couple, who got married in 2010, shares a son named Izhaan Mirza Malik, born in October 2018.
In an official statement released by Sania’s team on Sunday, it was acknowledged that the separation had occurred a few months ago. The statement requested fans and well-wishers to refrain from engaging in speculation and to respect Sania’s privacy during this sensitive period of her life.
“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead! At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy,” the statement read.
Malik and Sana Javed marked the occasion by sharing pictures from their wedding ceremony on social media.

Despite the separation, Malik and Sania celebrated their son’s fifth birthday together in Dubai last year. Even after Sania played her last Grand Slam match at the Australian Open, Malik publicly praised her career achievements.
The two sports stars had previously co-hosted a talk show in the UAE.
On the professional front, Shoaib Malik recently played for Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League 2024 against Rangpur Riders in Dhaka.
His team secured a victory, beating Rangpur Riders by 5 wickets and kicking off their 2024 campaign with a win.
