Guwahati, Feb 10: The Karimganj Civil Hospital in Assam finds itself embroiled in controversy following the death of a patient, Usha Barman, during an abortion procedure allegedly due to medical negligence.
After Barman’s demise, her family members accused the operating surgeon, Dr. Ashish Kumar Biswas, and his team of abandoning the operation theatre. Upon investigation, they found the theatre locked, prompting them to break in and discover Barman’s lifeless body.
The situation escalated, leading officials from the Karimganj Sadar Police Station to intervene and restore order.
The deceased’s body was later removed from the operation theatre by the Karimganj Sadar Circle Officer.

Dr. Biswas has faced prior allegations of medical malpractice, including administering incorrect treatments resulting in patient fatalities. One such incident was previously investigated by a team from Guwahati.
Additionally, another woman reportedly died due to erroneous treatment by Dr. Biswas six to seven months after the initial incident.
An investigation into the recent tragedy is currently underway, as authorities seek to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Usha Barman’s untimely demise.
