Assam, July 22: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that all cadres of the newly formed insurgent group National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) will lay down their arms.
Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “People’s trust in the government policies is reflected by NLFB’s decision to return to the mainstream today. I welcome their homecoming. We reiterate our commitment for all-round the development of Bodoland and to protect the unique Socio-cultural and the political identity of Bodo people.”

The cadres of the NLFB, led by M Batha, are reportedly on their way from the jungle area to surrender before the Assam Police.
In a video shared by Assam chief minister, the National Liberation Front of Bodoland cadres, equipped with sophisticated weapons, were seen returning to Udalguri from a dense forest area along the Assam-Bhutan border.

The outfit was floated after some disgruntled cadres of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) led by M Batha returned to the jungle following the signing of the third Bodo peace accord.
The centre and the Assam government had signed the third Bodo peace accord in January 2020 with four fractions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), and United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) in New Delhi in presence of Union Home minister Amit Shah.
The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) was formed after signing the peace accord.
