Guwahati, April 12: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam intensified his criticism of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), targeting them over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Sarma vowed accountability for those spreading alleged misinformation about the CAA.

Sarma singled out opposition figures like Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi, demanding apologies for what he termed as false claims of “two crore Bangladeshis” entering Assam.

He held them responsible for the deaths of five individuals during protests against the CAA.

Attributing street protests to misinformation, Sarma emphasized the consequences of what he labeled as instigating statements by opposition leaders.

Earlier, Sarma stirred controversy with his remarks questioning the appeal of Rahul Gandhi over Narendra Modi in Indian politics.

Sarma challenged Gandhi’s leadership, asserting widespread preference for Modi even among school students.
