Kaziranga tiger

Guwahati, Jan 25: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently shared a captivating photograph of a rare golden tiger spotted in Kaziranga National Park.

This extraordinary sighting was documented by wildlife photographer Mayuresh Hendre, who had the unique opportunity to observe and capture images of the elusive creature known as Kazi 106-F.

Nestled in the heart of Assam, Kaziranga National Park is celebrated for its exceptional biodiversity and holds the distinction of being the sole known habitat in India for the golden tiger, also known as the strawberry tiger or golden tabby tiger.

This variant of the Bengal tiger possesses a distinctive golden coat due to a genetic mutation affecting its fur coloration.

With a global population believed to be fewer than 30 individuals, encounters with golden tigers are exceedingly rare, sparking enthusiasm among wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists.

The park’s diverse ecosystem, featuring tall grasslands and dense forests, provides an ideal habitat for these tigers, offering ample hiding spots and a robust prey base.

The park plays a pivotal role in safeguarding various species, including the Indian one-horned rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal Tiger.

Rigorous protection measures outlined in Indian wildlife conservation laws have been instrumental in preserving the park’s diverse inhabitants.
