Lakhimpur, July 01: Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika condemned threats from an individual of a specific community who openly called for encircling Lakhimpur Police Station on July 6, threatening to disrupt normal life until July 10.

Hazarika shared a segment of a Facebook live session featuring Mufti Makibar Rehman, where he issued these threats.

Hazarika strongly criticized the audacity behind these threats, attributing them to an incident during Eid when a member of the minority community peacefully advocated against cow sacrifices.

In his statement, Hazarika highlighted the stark contrast, denouncing the escalation by Mufti Makibar Rehman, who openly threatened to besiege Lakhimpur Police Station and disrupt normalcy from July 6 to 10.

Expressing disbelief, Hazarika lamented how a compassionate plea regarding animal welfare could spiral into such hostile reactions.

He emphasized that it is incomprehensible for such a benign request to incite animosity to the point where authorities like @assampolice are challenged on social media with calls for violence.

Reflecting on the broader implications, Hazarika raised concerns about the direction Assam is heading, urging introspection and decisive action to safeguard peace and order in the state.

Aware of the gravity of the situation, Assam Police have reportedly taken preemptive measures to prevent any potential disruption of public tranquillity.
