Shillong, Feb 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma reaffirmed his government’s commitment to resolving the ongoing border dispute with Assam, emphasizing the need for collective efforts and a positive approach to address the differences.
Sangma has taken steps to address the situation, including requesting the Assam government to withdraw an FIR against four villagers related to the destruction of a foundation stone at Jatalong village. This move came after directives from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
The Meghalaya government has also pledged to tackle illegal tax collection within its territory, demonstrating its dedication to maintaining peace and stability along the border.

Regarding the Jatalong incident, Sangma clarified that the FIR was filed by the ranger of the KAAC, not the Assam government. Nevertheless, he initiated discussions with Assam counterparts to resolve the issue peacefully.
Following these discussions, the Chief Minister personally intervened to explore an amicable resolution, aiming to prevent further escalation and foster cooperation between the two states.
The Assam government has shown a positive response to the efforts, with assurances of cooperation from the Chief Minister. Both sides are engaged in collaborative efforts to find a solution, with optimism that the border dispute will soon be resolved.
