Itanagar, July 24: The district administration of Longding in Arunachal Pradesh has taken swift action in response to an outbreak of conjunctivitis in the region. As a precautionary measure, the authorities have ordered the temporary closure of schools in the Kanubari sub-division until July 29. The decision aims to contain the spread of the highly contagious eye infection and safeguard the health of students and staff.
In a circular issued by Longding Deputy Commissioner Bani Lego, the seriousness of the situation was emphasized, prompting the immediate closure of all schools in the Kanubari and Lawnu educational blocks. Conjunctivitis, commonly known as “pink eye,” is caused by various viruses and presents symptoms such as redness, itching, excessive tearing, and a gritty sensation in the eye.
The infection can be easily transmitted from one person to another through direct or indirect contact with infected eye secretions, contaminated objects, or respiratory droplets.
Recognizing the high contagiousness of conjunctivitis, the health authorities have recommended essential preventive measures. Frequent handwashing, avoiding touching the eyes, practicing personal hygiene, disinfecting surfaces, and isolating infected individuals are crucial steps to curb the spread of the disease.
The decision to close schools came after receiving reports from the Kanubari block education officer (BEO), who raised concerns about the increasing number of conjunctivitis cases among students.
