New Delhi, March 19: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is convening on Tuesday morning, marking its final meeting before the general election, with the primary agenda of approving the party’s poll manifesto.

Additionally, the central election committee is expected to finalize the candidate list for the first phase of polls scheduled on April 19.

The CWC meeting, scheduled for 10 am, will dedicate significant time to approving the manifesto, addressing key issues, and passing a resolution acknowledging former party chief Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

This yatra commenced from Manipur on January 14 and concluded in Mumbai on March 17.

While the committee may have limited time to discuss all pressing matters, the approval of the Congress manifesto remains the primary focus, as stated by a committee member speaking on condition of anonymity.

The highest executive body of the party will also deliberate on a resolution concerning the electoral bond data. This follows the recent upload of data by the Election Commission, a day before the Supreme Court’s deadline.

The data revealed that approximately 1,260 companies and individuals purchased 22,217 bonds valued at ₹12,155.51 crore between April 12, 2019, and February 15, 2024.

Additionally, 20,421 bonds worth ₹12,769.09 crore were redeemed by 23 political parties during this period, with the Bharatiya Janata Party leading in redemption value.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is another focal point of the meeting, symbolizing Gandhi’s completion of the east-to-west leg of the march after last year’s historic Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Simultaneously, the party’s poll panel is set to finalize remaining candidate nominations for the first phase of elections across 18 states and three Union Territories.

Originally slated for March 15, the meeting was postponed due to the engagement of top leaders in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Thus far, the Congress has approved 82 names in two poll committee meetings, with a focus on states such as Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, among others.
