Delhi, June 08: Delhi will be on high alert on Sunday for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

According to Delhi Police officials, a multi-layered security setup involving five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandos, drones, and snipers will be in place at Rashtrapati Bhawan for the event.

The ceremony will witness the presence of dignitaries from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nations, resembling the security measures for last year’s G20 summit.

Police officials noted that designated routes have been established for dignitaries traveling from their hotels to the venue and back.

An official notice by the Delhi Police on Friday highlighted the prohibition of certain flying objects in Delhi.

Security Deployment

Snipers and armed police personnel will be stationed along the dignitaries’ routes, with drones deployed at strategic locations in the national capital.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by top leaders from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Seychelles, with hotels such as Leela, Taj, ITC Maurya, Claridges, and Oberoi already under security cover.

Advanced technology including Artificial Intelligence and intrusion warning systems will be used for scanning and facial recognition, while snipers will be positioned at strategic locations and high-rise buildings.

“Approximately 2500 police personnel, including five companies of paramilitary and Delhi Armed Police (DAP) jawans, are planned for deployment around the venue,” an official stated.

Traffic Diversions

In light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, several roads leading to central Delhi may be closed on Sunday, or traffic diversions may be in effect from the morning. Enhanced security checks will commence at the borders of the national capital starting Saturday.
