Agartala, July 10: In a disturbing incident of child molestation, the husband of a tutor has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Kumarghat, Unakoti district, Tripura. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety of children in educational settings.
According to the police, the 11-year-old girl, who used to visit the house of a female teacher in her locality for private tuition, became a victim of repeated sexual assault by the tutor’s husband. Taking advantage of the teacher’s absence, the accused, identified as Har Kumar Debnath, committed these heinous acts against the minor girl.
The victim’s father bravely filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police, leading to the swift arrest of the accused. Inspector Sankar Saha, the officer in charge of Kumarghat police station, provided details of the case, stating that the girl was threatened with dire consequences if she disclosed the incidents to anyone, which resulted in her silence. However, when her parents persisted in questioning her refusal to attend tuition classes, she finally revealed the ordeal she had been subjected to.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The accused, Har Kumar Debnath, aged 46, was apprehended within an hour of the FIR being filed. He underwent a medical examination, and the victim’s statement confirmed that the incidents of rape occurred on June 26 and July 5.

The accused has reportedly confessed to his crimes, and the victim has undergone a medical examination as part of the investigation process. The court proceedings began promptly, with the accused being produced before the district and sessions court of Unakoti. The court remanded the accused to judicial custody, and he will appear before the court again after 14 days.
