Itanagar, Feb 15: The Election Commission (EC) has made an official request to the Ministry of Home Affairs, seeking the deployment of 3,400 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and Assembly polls.

This request translates to approximately 3.4 lakh paramilitary personnel, who will be strategically stationed across Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim in a phased manner.

In addition to the request for CAPF deployment, the EC has also reached out to the Chairman of the Railway Board, urging for adequate rolling stocks equipped with necessary facilities to facilitate the mobilization and movement of forces required for election duties.

This measure aims to ensure seamless logistical support for the security personnel during the electoral process.

According to the communication, West Bengal is slated to witness the highest deployment of CAPFs, with up to 920 companies earmarked for the state. Following closely behind are Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) with 635 companies, Chhattisgarh with 360 companies, Bihar with 295 companies, Uttar Pradesh with 252 companies, and Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Punjab with 250 companies each.

These allocations reflect the Election Commission’s strategic approach to maintaining law and order during the electoral process in states with varying degrees of security challenges.

Furthermore, several other states are also expected to witness significant deployment of CAPFs to ensure the smooth conduct of elections.

These states include Gujarat, Manipur, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Assam, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura.
