Guwahati, April 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma suggested that the proposal for a caste census has led to a significant split in the Muslim votes of Assam, dividing it evenly at 50-50.

He emphasized that his government’s commitment to conducting a caste census among the Muslim community has gained support from backward Muslim classes, with many now rallying behind the BJP.

Sarma highlighted his efforts to garner support from marginalized Muslim groups, reaffirming his administration’s promise to conduct a caste census specifically within the Muslim population.

This initiative, he claimed, has resulted in a noticeable shift in voting patterns, with a substantial portion now showing alignment with the BJP.

Furthermore, Sarma issued a warning to the Congress party, cautioning against any attempts to introduce ‘Sharia Law’ in the country.

He asserted that such actions would not be tolerated, stressing the importance of upholding Indian cultural values.

“In Indian culture, we work hard not for ourselves but for the coming generations; they have no right to snatch our property,” Sarma emphasized.
