Imphal, Feb 13: The family of Ngangom Nevy, a victim of a brutal murder, has claimed his decomposed body from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (JNIMS) morgue.

The body retrieval occurred this afternoon following an understanding reached between the government and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with Nevy’s killing.

Speaking at the morgue campus, JAC convenor Chanthoi outlined demands to address the situation, including the removal of armed miscreants allegedly from the Kuki community, replacement of the 37th Assam Rifles, and provision of suitable jobs for Nevy’s family.

The JAC emphasized the inhumanity of the Kuki National Army terrorists’ actions and urged the government to expel them from the state, expressing dissatisfaction with the Assam Rifles’ alleged negligence in preventing the murder, which occurred near the 37 Assam Rifles gate.

Upon the government’s assurance to meet their demands, the JAC claimed Nevy’s body, with his last rites scheduled for the same day.

The incident unfolded near the Assam Rifles Camp, raising concerns about the presence of armed miscreants and the effectiveness of the security forces, prompting calls for their removal.

Nevy had been missing since May 28, and his decomposed body was discovered at Sokom Village under Chandel district on January 31, following the circulation of a disturbing beheading video on social media.
