Girls outshine boys in Mizoram class-12 board exams, 87.80 % of students passed

Mizoram, June 18: Girls outshone boys with a pass percentage of 88.81 in the Mizoram Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) or class-12 board examination, the results of which were announced by the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) on Friday.

The pass percentage among boys was 86.69.

A total of 10,089 students, including 5,328 girls, out of the total 11,348 appeared to have passed the examinations conducted during April to May in three streams- Arts, Commerce and Science, registering the total pass percentage of 87.80, which was more of the previous pass percentage.

In last year, a total of 78.52 per cent of students passed the board examinations.

A total of 1,259 students who appeared for the exams failed—593 of them girls and 666 boys while 143 candidates, including 78 girls, got the compartmental chance.

At least 16 students, including 11 girls figured in top-ten in Arts stream, 10 students, including 7 girls in Science stream and 13 students, including 3 girls in Commerce stream.

Sylvia Lalhmingmawii of Oikos Higher Secondary School, Aizawl, Lalengzauva of St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Aizawl and C.Lalrintluangi of Oikos Higher Secondary School, Aizawl topped the merit list in Arts, Science and Commerce respectively.

Of the total 4477 candidates who appeared for the exams in the Arts stream, 3994 students cleared it registering a pass percentage of 89.21.

1056 students (88.98%) out of the total 1187 candidates in the Science stream cleared the exams while 243 students from the total 266 successfully passed in Commerce stream registering 91.35 per cent.

Private schools outperformed government schools in all the streams.

According to the board, the compartmental examination will be held on August 11 in three centres- Govt. Mizoram HSS, Aizawl; Govt. HSS, Lunglei and Govt. HSS, Siaha.
