Guwahati, Jan 22: Amidst Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam as part of his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ the Congress leader faced restrictions from entering the revered Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva.

The incident, which occurred on January 22, 2024, sparked controversy and questions on social media.

When a Twitter user sought clarification on the denial of entry into the temple, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded cryptically with “Ram Rajya.”

This succinct reply left room for interpretation, hinting at the prevailing atmosphere of order and discipline reminiscent of the idealized governance described as “Ram Rajya.”

Rahul Gandhi claimed that he was initially barred from visiting Batadrava Than and was only granted access after 3 PM on the same day.

The Satra authorities purportedly suggested the post-3 PM visit, but Gandhi arrived earlier, leading to the confrontation.

Expressing his discontent at being denied entry, Rahul Gandhi questioned, “What crime have I committed that I cannot visit the temple?” Confronting a security official at the site, he further inquired, “What is the issue, brother? Can I go and see the barricades? What mistake have I made that I am not allowed inside the temple?”

The incident raised eyebrows and fueled debates about the freedom of access to religious sites.
