Guwahati, May 16: During an election campaign in Odisha on May 16, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared his optimism about the political landscape in the state.

He confidently projected the emergence of a BJP-led government, envisioning a “double-engine” governance model. Sarma also called for VK Pandian, a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) member and former IAS officer from Odisha, to transfer the keys of the Ratna Bhandar to the Jagannath Temple.

Sarma’s remarks stirred controversy, particularly regarding the situation in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the reservation issue.

He drew parallels between PoK’s current state and the past scenario in Kashmir, alleging a shift in national allegiance. Sarma highlighted the transformation from displaying the Pakistani flag in Kashmir to now proudly hoisting the Indian tricolour in PoK.

Addressing the terminology used to describe the region, Sarma noted a linguistic discrepancy among political factions.

While he referred to it as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Sarma pointed out that the Congress party labels it as Pakistan-ruled Kashmir, highlighting divergent perspectives on the region’s sovereignty.
