Hyderabad, May 26: A 29-year-old man faced arrest for attempting to open the door of a Hyderabad-bound IndiGo flight mid-air, just before landing. The incident, occurring on May 21, recently surfaced.

Reportedly, the passenger, hailing from Chandragirinagar in Hyderabad’s Gajularamaram, allegedly consumed ‘bhang’ before boarding the flight from Indore.

Mid-flight, the man began exhibiting unusual behavior, prompting the crew to relocate him. However, he insisted on sitting beside his two friends with whom he traveled to Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

As the flight neared landing, the passenger made an attempt to open the plane’s door, thwarted by airline staff and fellow passengers.

Upon landing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, the airline staff filed a complaint, leading to the passenger’s arrest.

Despite being granted bail, medical reports stating the accused’s “health issues” were submitted to the police.

In a recent similar incident, a 22-year-old man from West Bengal was booked by Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) police for attempting to open the emergency exit door of an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru.

The accused, identified as Koushik Karan, was charged under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code for endangering the lives or safety of others.

During the investigation, the accused claimed ignorance of flight rules, citing it as his first air travel experience.
