northeast viceroy

1. Jairam Ramesh ignites a political storm during Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
2. Sarma labeled ‘viceroy of the northeast’ for BJP.
3. Controversy linked to Angkita Dutta’s protest over expulsion and alleged misconduct.

Guwahati, Jan 19: A political storm has erupted amid Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, with Congress leader Jairam Ramesh labeling Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the ‘viceroy of the northeast’ for the BJP.

This controversy surfaced in connection with a protest by Angkita Dutta, a former Assam Youth Congress president, who sought justice from Rahul Gandhi after being expelled from the party for alleged “anti-party activities.”

Angkita Dutta accused Srinivas BV of harassment and expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress high command’s handling of her complaint.

Jairam Ramesh, commenting on the issue, suggested that the conflict between Dutta and Srinivas could have been resolved if Himanta Biswa Sarma had not interfered.

Ramesh went on to refer to Sarma as the ‘naradmuni’ and the ‘viceroy of the northeast’ for the BJP.

Addressing the media on the protest in Sivasagar by former Assam Pradesh Youth Congress President Angkita Dutta, Jairam Ramesh stated, “I have spoken to Angkita Dutta multiple times. She also came to my home. The reality is that this issue could be resolved. Both of them, our Youth Congress President (Srinivas BV) and Angkita are very emotional people. I spoke to both of them. I tried to resolve the issue and get justice… But Assam CM did not let it happen… The matter is in the Supreme Court right now. The inquiry has been done. And all necessary action would be taken. But the Assam CM (naradmuni) has made matters worse, and you all know who the naradmuni is… it’s the BJP’s viceroy sitting in Guwahati and controlling the entire northeast…”

The dispute has now reached the Supreme Court, with BJP leaders advocating for justice for Angkita Dutta.

The political drama has unfolded against the backdrop of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entering Assam, drawing national attention to the incident and Jairam Ramesh’s statements.

As the controversy deepens, it remains to be seen how the political landscape in Assam and the broader northeast region will be influenced by these developments.

The Supreme Court’s involvement adds a legal dimension to the matter, and the ongoing political narrative could have significant repercussions for all parties involved.

The situation underscores the complexities and tensions within the political sphere, with the ‘viceroy’ reference adding a layer of symbolism to the unfolding drama.
