Aizawl, July 09: In a significant drug seizure, the Mizoram excise and narcotics department, in collaboration with the Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), recovered 2.691 grams of heroin with an estimated value of over Rs 7 crore.

According to an official statement, eight individuals, including five from Assam and one woman, were apprehended in connection with the possession of the contraband.

Acting on specific intelligence, officials from the state excise and narcotics department intercepted a bolero camper at Selesih village near Aizawl on Saturday, leading to the confiscation of 2.6 kilograms of heroin.

A total of seven individuals, including five residents of Assam, were arrested for their involvement in possessing the contraband, which is estimated to be worth around Rs 7.3 crore.

The arrested individuals have been identified as H. Thangngaihliana (49) from Vapar village in Champhai district, Mizoram, Abdul Rahim Laskar (25) from Bawngkawn, and five residents of Assam: Kausar Alom Laskar (24), Jaidul Hussain Laskar (20), Ajmal Hussain Laskar (21), Hamidul Hoque Barbhuiya (30), and Jakir Hussain Laskar (20).

Additionally, the vehicle used for transporting the heroin was seized from the accused.

In a separate operation, authorities recovered approximately 56 grams of heroin, valued at around Rs 16 lakh, from a woman peddler in Aizawl‘s Bawngkawn area on Friday.

The official stated that the seized heroin had been smuggled from Myanmar and was intended for transportation to other states. The eight individuals have been charged under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, of 1985.

This successful operation demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies in Mizoram to combat the drug trade and prevent the illegal flow of narcotics.
