Kolkata, March 06: On a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various Metro projects in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a salary hike for Anganwadi and Asha workers in the state, effective from April.

Banerjee increased the monthly remuneration of Anganwadi and Asha workers from ₹8,250 to ₹9,000, marking a significant raise of ₹750.

Additionally, she announced a ₹500 hike in the salaries of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) workers, from ₹6,000 to ₹6,500 per month.

Emphasizing the importance of Anganwadi and Asha workers, Banerjee referred to them as “our pride,” acknowledging their hard work and support during challenging times.

She reiterated her government’s commitment to the well-being of these workers and expressed her wishes for their prosperity.

Banerjee made the announcement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating her determination to ensure the happiness and prosperity of the people of West Bengal despite financial constraints.

Anganwadi services, a centrally sponsored scheme, come under the purview of the state government and Union territory administration.

The salary hike in West Bengal follows similar moves by other states like Odisha and Kerala to increase remuneration for Anganwadi workers.

The announcement coincided with Modi’s visit to Kolkata, where he inaugurated various Metro projects, including the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro’s East-West underwater corridor.

Additionally, he flagged off other train services aimed at enhancing urban mobility in the region.
