Guwahati, June 23: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh is currently in Guwahati to meet with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. They are set to discuss security challenges along the Jiribam-Cachar inter-state boundary.

The meeting follows recent incidents of ethnic violence in Manipur’s Jiribam, prompting affected residents to seek refuge in neighboring Cachar district, Assam.

Accompanied by senior minister L Susindro Singh, Chief Minister Singh departed for Guwahati on Saturday evening to assess the security situation.

They aim to strategize on enhancing coordination among police forces to address militant activities along the border effectively.

The discussions are expected to address preventing the spillover of Manipur’s ethnic conflict into Assam and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those affected by the violence.

Chief Minister Singh plans to return to Manipur after concluding these talks on Sunday.

Authorities have heightened vigilance along the Assam-Manipur inter-state boundary, deploying patrols and reinforcing control measures to maintain stability amidst Jiribam’s diverse ethnic demographics, including Meiteis, Muslims, Nagas, Kukis, and non-Manipuris.
