Weather Update, June 19: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has updated its daily forecast bulletin, indicating the further advancement of the Northern Limit of Monsoon into Navsari, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bijapur, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, and Islampur. This progression brings hope for much-needed rainfall across these regions.
IMD anticipates the Southwest Monsoon to extend deeper into Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Northwest Bay of Bengal in the coming days. This expansion is expected to provide relief from the prevailing summer heat in Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Across northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, IMD forecasts widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas, particularly in Assam, Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on June 19.

Southern states like Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep are also expected to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
Isolated to scattered light to moderate showers are predicted for Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
A western disturbance along the mid-tropospheric westerlies north of latitude 30°N will trigger isolated to scattered light rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from June 19 to 23.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on June 19 and 20, accompanied by strong surface winds across the plains of Northwest India over the next two days.
However, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh continue to endure heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring between 44-46°C.
Severe heatwave conditions are anticipated in many areas of Uttar Pradesh on June 19, gradually easing thereafter. Hot and humid weather is also expected in Odisha on June 19 and 20, and in Bihar on June 20.
