Shillong, March 18: In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19, the District Magistrate of East Garo Hills in Meghalaya has issued a directive invoking Section 144 of the CrPC and Section 17(3)(a) and (b) of the Arms Act, 1959.

Under the directive, all individuals possessing arms within the district are required to surrender their licenses and firearms to the Executive Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, the nearest police stations, or the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (OGC) within 7 days.

The notice emphasizes that failure to comply with this order within the stipulated period will lead to prosecution under Section 25 1B (h) of the CrPC.
