Aizawl, Jan 30: Mizoram Director General of Police (DGP), Anil Shukla, emphasized the urgent need to address the escalating threat of drug trafficking in the state during the inauguration of a two-day training on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act and related aspects.

The event, organized by the Training Branch, PHQ, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), aims to equip law enforcement with the necessary tools to counter drug-related activities.

DGP Anil Shukla, while addressing the participants at the Aizawl SP Conference Hall, highlighted Mizoram’s unfortunate emergence as a significant route for drug trafficking.

He stressed the importance of proactive measures and urged police and sister agencies to investigate both forward and backward linkages to effectively thwart drug smuggling.

Shukla emphasized that active participation in the training is not only a professional responsibility but also a commitment to the well-being of the communities they serve. He declared the fight against drugs as a war that must be won.

Reflecting on Mizoram Police’s accomplishments in 2023, Shukla revealed that substantial quantities of narcotics, including Heroin, Methamphetamine, Crystal Meth, Ganja, Pseudoephedrine, Opium, and Codeine, were seized. The total value of the seized drugs amounted to ₹49,02,42,395/- in the local market rate.

The year witnessed 273 NDPS cases, leading to the arrest of 385 individuals, including 55 Myanmarese nationals.

The training program aims to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement officials in dealing with the complex challenges posed by drug trafficking.

By equipping them with in-depth knowledge of the ND&PS Act and related aspects, the initiative strives to empower authorities to curb the drug menace effectively.

The DGP’s call for a collective effort and commitment underscores the gravity of the situation and the importance of a united front in the fight against drug-related crimes in Mizoram.
