3. TMC reaffirms its commitment to contest all 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal.

Kolkata, Jan 30: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has emphasized that the Congress, being the largest party in the I.N.D.I.A bloc, carries more responsibility and should have deferred seat-sharing matters in West Bengal to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The regional party reiterated its decision to contest all 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

TMC leader Sudip Bandhopadhyay, addressing reporters after an all-party meeting before the Budget session, stated that Mamata Banerjee’s success in reducing the Congress and the Left to zero in Assembly polls reflects her potential to achieve a similar outcome against the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Bandyopadhyay emphasized that if the Congress intends to make an impact in Bengal, it should trust Mamata Banerjee’s leadership.

Highlighting the TMC’s discontent with the Congress over seat-sharing talks led by Rahul Gandhi for the Bharat Jodo Nyay campaign, Bandhopadhyay mentioned that the Congress, as the principal party in the I.N.D.I.A bloc, should have informed the TMC about the yatra in advance.

He expressed that Banerjee could have participated if the Congress had extended the invitation earlier. Bandhopadhyay criticized the delayed invitation, stating that they received it after the yatra had already commenced.

Regarding the exit of Janata Dal (U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from the alliance, Bandhopadhyay downplayed it, asserting that Kumar’s departure is not a setback for the TMC-led alliance. He urged for cooperation among alliance members and emphasized the need for a unified front in the upcoming political landscape in West Bengal.
