Aizawl, Nov 13: Amidst escalating conflict along the Indo-Myanmar border, over 2,000 Myanmar nationals have sought refuge in Mizoram, with the majority arriving in the Champhai district.

The mass migration follows intense clashes between the Myanmar armed forces and pro-democracy militias near the border, exacerbating an already precarious situation.

Mizoram, which was already grappling with the responsibility of sheltering 30,000+ refugees from Myanmar, is now facing an additional surge in displaced individuals.

Tensions along the border flared up as the Myanmar Army and the Chinland Defence Force (CDF) engaged in a firefight. Notably, the CDF reportedly seized control of the Myanmar Army camp in Rihkhawdar Village, located merely 4 kilometers from Zokhawthar in Mizoram. In a retaliatory move, a Myanmar Army jet fighter dropped a bomb twice this morning, intensifying the conflict.

The repercussions of the heightened hostilities are evident in the increasing number of refugees seeking safety in Mizoram. Reports indicate that over 700 refugees have crossed the border since the onset of the clashes.

Disturbingly, the conflict has resulted in injuries, with around 17 individuals, including women and minors, being brought to Mizoram for medical treatment. Some of the injured have been referred to the District Hospital in Champhai.

The situation underscores the urgent need for humanitarian aid and international intervention to address the growing displacement crisis and ensure the well-being of those affected.

As Mizoram shoulders the responsibility of accommodating an escalating number of refugees, the international community’s support becomes crucial in managing the fallout of the conflict and providing assistance to those in need.
