Kolkata, Nov 13: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has been appointed as the party’s district president of Krishnanagar (Nadia North) on Monday, marking a significant development amid ongoing controversies. This announcement coincides with the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee’s call for Moitra’s expulsion following a complaint by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

The complaint alleges that Moitra sought favors from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to pose questions against industrialist Gautam Adani, leading to a contentious debate. In response to the allegations, the committee has not only recommended Moitra’s expulsion but also called for an intense, legal, and time-bound government inquiry. The committee labeled Moitra’s conduct as “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal.”

Despite the mounting accusations, Moitra vehemently denies the charges, asserting that she is being singled out for her role in confronting the government and exposing alleged connections between Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Modi. She claims to be one of the few individuals standing up against the perceived bullies in the government.

The appointment as the district president of Krishnanagar reflects the Trinamool Congress’s confidence in Moitra, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding her. This move may also signal the party’s strategy to maintain its stance and support for Moitra in the face of political challenges.

As the political landscape evolves, Moitra’s role as the district president will likely bring additional scrutiny and attention. The situation highlights the intricate intersections of politics, ethics, and allegations that continue to shape the narrative in India’s political arena.
