Weather Update, May 07: As the Lok Sabha elections progress into their third phase, covering 93 constituencies across the nation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a rainfall alert for northeastern states and West Bengal, offering a potential reprieve to voters amid sweltering temperatures.

In West Bengal, where mercury levels soar past 40 degrees Celsius, several districts experienced rainfall on Monday, providing relief from the oppressive heat. IMD forecasts continued rainfall over the state in the coming days, offering respite to voters amidst persistent heatwave conditions.

Thunderstorms with gusty winds are predicted in various districts of West Bengal until May 10, as multiple cyclonic circulations near northeastern states may bring light to moderate rainfall in Assam on polling day.

Southeasterly moisture-bearing winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to traverse eastern India, potentially bringing moderate to heavy rains to several districts in Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, and other northeastern states throughout the week.

An orange alert is issued in most districts of Karnataka, which are set for polling on Tuesday, with temperatures soaring to 42-44 degrees Celsius in recent days.

In Phase 3 of the Lok Sabha elections, voting will take place in 93 constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories on Tuesday, featuring over 1,300 candidates.

The fate of prominent figures such as Union Ministers Amit Shah, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Mansukh Mandaviya, along with key BJP candidates, will be sealed on May 7.
