Bengal NCBC

Kolkata, June 10: The Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, has drawn attention to the composition of the state list of backward classes in West Bengal.

According to Chairman Hansraj Ahir, the state list of backward classes in West Bengal encompasses a total of 179 communities. Out of these communities, 118 are from the Muslim religion and are included in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. On the other hand, approximately 61 Hindu communities are also listed as OBC.

These statistics shed light on the religious distribution within the OBC category in West Bengal. The data suggests that a significant proportion of Muslim communities have been classified as backward and eligible for OBC benefits, while a smaller number of Hindu communities have received similar recognition.

The revelation raises important questions about the process and criteria used to determine the inclusion of communities in the state’s backward classes list. It highlights the need for a thorough evaluation and review of the categorization system to ensure fairness and equal representation for all communities.

Chairman Hansraj Ahir’s remarks during the press conference emphasize the significance of transparency and impartiality in the classification of communities under the backward classes category. The NCBC plays a crucial role in addressing the concerns and welfare of backward communities, and it is essential to ensure that the categorization process is based on accurate data and objective criteria.

The disclosure of the community distribution within the OBC category in West Bengal serves as an important background to the story, prompting further discussions and analysis regarding the inclusivity and equitable representation of communities in government policies and programs aimed at uplifting backward classes.
