Itanagar, May 10: A new catfish species, Glyptothorax punyabratai, was discovered in the Brahmaputra River drainage of Arunachal Pradesh by ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow.

The species, found in the Tung Stream, a tributary of the Tissa River, showcases the region’s rich biodiversity.

Published in Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters, the discovery underscores the need for continued exploration in northeastern regions for conservation and utilization.
