Guwahati, June 11: In an effort to manage the crowd and ensure the safety of devotees, the Kamakhya Temple in Assam has announced a temporary night closure during the upcoming Ambubachi Mela.
As per the directive from Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, devotees planning to ascend towards the main sanctum of the temple after 9 pm will be asked to leave the premises.
Minister Mallabaruah, after a review meeting held on June 10 with temple authorities and officials, emphasized the need to avoid overcrowding and maintain a safe environment for the devotees. The temple authorities will close the route for devotees ascending upwards after 9 pm and reopen it at 5 am the next day.
The Ambubachi Mela, a significant religious event, is scheduled to take place from June 22 to 26. During this period, the Kamakhya Temple witnesses a large influx of devotees from different parts of the country who come to seek blessings and participate in the rituals.

Situated atop the Nilachal hills in Guwahati, the Kamakhya Temple holds immense religious significance as one of the oldest and most revered centers of Tantric practices dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya.
The Ambubachi Mela, also known as the fertility festival, marks the annual menstruation of the presiding deity, and devotees believe it to be a time of heightened spiritual energy.
The decision to implement the night closure aims to streamline the flow of devotees and prevent any untoward incidents that may arise due to overcrowding. By allowing devotees to visit the main sanctum only during specific hours, the temple management seeks to maintain a conducive and safe atmosphere for everyone.
The authorities have urged devotees planning to attend the Ambubachi Mela to cooperate with the new guidelines and adhere to the timings set for entry and exit from the temple premises. These measures are crucial in ensuring a smooth and peaceful experience for all devotees participating in this auspicious event.
