Kamrup, May 05: In Assam’s Kamrup district, comprising the Guwahati and Barpeta Lok Sabha constituencies, 19 all-women polling stations are set up for the Lok Sabha polls scheduled on May 7.

Among the 965 polling stations, the district boasts 19 all-women polling stations, one youth-managed polling station, four model polling stations, and one Person with Disabilities (PwD)–managed polling station, as confirmed by an official.

The district anticipates a turnout of 8,38,493 voters, including 14,887 new registrants. The polling stations are strategically distributed across constituencies, with 247 in Chamaria, 232 in Boko-Chaygaon, 262 in Palashbari under Guwahati, and 224 in Hajo-Sualkuchi under Barpeta.

Preparations are underway as polling parties for 16 remote stations leave on May 5, while others depart on May 6 for the remaining 949 stations. District Commissioner and District Election Officer Keerthi Jalli ensures comprehensive arrangements for a smooth election process.

A workforce of 4,468 polling personnel is appointed to maintain order, with adequate security measures in place. Voters are urged not to carry mobile phones inside polling stations and encouraged to cast votes early in the day.

Home voting facilities have been arranged for 214 elderly and 21 PwD voters. Additionally, a 48-hour “dry day” from May 5 to May 7 prohibits the sale and possession of liquor and intoxicants, extending to the day of vote counting on June 4 and any repolling.
