Imphal, June 11: The Rongmei Naga Student’s Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) has announced that there will be no total shutdown along the NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) in Rongmei Naga territories, countering the call for a 24-hour shutdown by Kuki groups starting from midnight on June 10.

In a statement, the RNSOM explained that the Kuki Inpi South West Sadar Hills, Kuki Students Organization South West Sadar Hills, and Kuki Women Union Moltam Region have jointly called for the shutdown in Kuki-dominated areas along NH-37.

However, the RNSOM emphasized that the entire stretch from Imphal to Jiribam is ancestral Rongmei Naga land, despite claims by the Kukis, whom they described as “new settlers.”

The RNSOM warned that any incidents resulting from the proposed shutdown would be the responsibility of the Kuki community, as NH-37, the lifeline of Manipur, traverses Rongmei Naga land and serves all communities in and outside the state.

The RNSOM firmly stated that NH-37 cannot be used as a platform for acts of terrorism by any organization or individual, now or in the future.

Additionally, the group condemned the recent “barbaric indiscriminate attack” by Kuki militants on state police and the Chief Minister’s security personnel along NH-37.

They cautioned that such attacks on peace-loving communities serving in the state forces could provoke another wave of crisis and be seen as an “open invitation to join the fights.”
