Kolkata, March 06: Women from Sandeshkhali, who had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, expressed gratitude for his assurance of assistance in their case.

They openly conveyed the atrocities they endured, particularly in alleged sexual assault incidents involving former Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan.

Feeling neglected by the state government, the women highlighted their disappointment, stating that despite voting for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, they felt insulted and unheard.

They found solace in the attentive audience they received from PM Modi and requested the deployment of Central Forces, expressing distrust in the state administration’s ability to deliver justice.

During the meeting with PM Modi, the women articulated their desire for justice, appreciating the prime minister’s attentive approach despite his busy schedule.

They expressed hope that their grievances would be addressed and justice served.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met with the victims of the alleged sexual assaults in Sandeshkhali, a village in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

The meeting occurred following a public gathering in Barasat, during which PM Modi criticized Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s handling of the Sandeshkhali case.

PM Modi condemned the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for its alleged mistreatment of women, emphasizing the severity of the situation in Sandeshkhali.

He accused the TMC government of shielding the culprits and disregarding the victims’ suffering, despite legal interventions from the high court and Supreme Court.

Shahjahan, who was suspended from the TMC, faced arrest after allegedly inciting violence against Enforcement Directorate officials in Sandeshkhali.

His arrest came after weeks of evasion, highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding the case.
