Imphal, March 06: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced his intention to recommend the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state to the central government, citing the inability of the state government to execute it independently.
Singh’s statement follows a recent resolution passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly urging the central government to implement the NRC in the state for the benefit of both Manipur and the nation as a whole.
“The state cannot implement it (NRC). We have taken a resolution in the House. We are sending a recommendation to the Central government to do the needful for implementation of NRC in Manipur,” Singh stated during a press interaction.

The private member resolution, moved by a Tangkhul Naga MLA and backed by a diverse coalition including a Naga Minister and representatives from other communities, marks a significant moment in Manipur’s legislative history.
