Manipur operation

1. Security forces in Manipur conducted search operations in vulnerable areas on December 30.

Imphal, Dec 31: Security forces in Manipur conducted search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East, Thoubal, and Kangpokpi districts on December 30, targeting the Mother Ridgeline from Leitanpokpi top to Purum Likli Hill. During the operation, 12 bunkers were destroyed, enhancing the security posture in the region.

The search operation yielded a significant recovery of arms and ammunition, further strengthening the efforts to curb insurgency and maintain law and order in the state. The recovered items include:

i. 1 CMG (Chhota Machine Gun) ii. 9 HE 36 hand grenades iii. 15 tube launchings iv. 12 tube launching rings v. 12 HD cartridges vi. 4 grenade caps vii. 16 No 36 hand grenades (old) viii. 1 grenade key ix. 36 mini flare green cartridges (recovered from Kangpokpi District)

Additionally, the recovered arsenal includes a country-made 303 Rifle without a magazine, a Stun Gun, 3 Stun shells, 2 tear smoke shells (soft nose), 1 tear smoke shell, 1 Stun grenade, 2 Chinese Hand Grenades, 2 36 HE grenades, 2 No. 90 grenades, 1 Chinese Walkie Talkie, 1 Motorola Handset, 1 bulletproof plate, 1 bulletproof jacket, 2 9mm CMG magazines, 1 303 LMG magazine, 5 AK ammunitions, 3 303 rifle ammunitions, and 1 smoke grenade WP (recovered from Thoubal District).

The search and combing operation came in the aftermath of an ambush on security forces in Moreh, where armed militants attacked in an alleged military operation, injuring one police personnel.

The proactive measures by security forces aim to quell such incidents and maintain peace and stability in the region.

Expressing concern over the security situation, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the incident where one village volunteer lost his life due to an attack by armed militants on December 30.

The Chief Minister called for maintaining peace and urged all stakeholders to initiate dialogue to address and resolve issues, fostering a peaceful environment in the state.
