Gangtok Dec 31: The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department of Sikkim has taken proactive measures to enhance surveillance, aiming to prevent unauthorized entry of vehicles and tourists lacking the requisite permits to restricted areas within the state.

According to department sources, there have been reported incidents of unauthorized access to locations like Nathu-la, presenting potential risks to national security. In response, an advisory has been issued, reminding tourists to obtain permits before visiting such areas.

Nathu-la, situated in Sikkim’s Gangtok district, is a popular tourist destination located on the India-China border. In Sikkim, tourists typically approach registered travel agencies and taxi operators to secure permits, which are then issued by the Tourism Department.

With the recent reopening of NH10, the primary highway connecting the state to the rest of India, there has been a noticeable surge in tourist arrivals.

In light of this, the department has decided to closely monitor tourist movements towards border areas. Surprise checks will be conducted to discourage illegal entry, and individuals found traveling without the necessary permits will face legal consequences.
