Gangtok, Sept 14: Sikkim Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, recently held discussions with a Korean delegation visiting the state to explore the potential for environmentally friendly collaborations between the two nations.

The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Mintokgang, with the presence of the Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation, B.S. Panth.

During the interaction, Chief Minister Tamang highlighted the various policies implemented by the government to promote environmental conservation and protection. He also commended the Korean delegation’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives, especially in the current climate scenario.

The Chief Minister extended his support to the delegation, emphasizing the dual importance of such initiatives – environmental preservation and local employment generation. He expressed the government’s willingness to conduct a comprehensive study on the feasibility and advantages of green hydrogen fuel and to proceed accordingly.

Chief Minister Tamang characterized the meeting as highly productive, underlining the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in the realm of eco-friendly technologies.

Prior to the meeting, Karma R Bonpo, Secretary of Commerce and Industries, provided an overview of the discussions held with the Korean counterparts and the background of the meeting. He also apprised the Chief Minister of the potential for initiating a pilot project in the transportation sector in Sikkim, marking a significant step toward sustainable and green solutions.

The discussions between Sikkim’s Chief Minister and the Korean delegation reflect a shared commitment to exploring eco-friendly technologies and initiatives that can contribute to environmental preservation and socioeconomic development.
