Gangtok, Aug 23: The Sikkim government has announced plans to deploy a high-level multidisciplinary team to assess 16 high-risk lakes for the first time.

This comprehensive study aims to better understand the risks posed by these lakes.

The study will involve experts from the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Science and Technology Department, Forest Department, Water Resources Department, Mines and Geology Department, and the Information and Public Relations Department.

Following the study, the team will develop mitigation strategies to address potential threats. The expedition is scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 14.
