Agartala, Dec 21: Tripura’s main opposition party, Tipra Motha, has appealed to Chief Minister Manik Saha to cancel the proposed rally on December 25, organized by Janjati Suraksha Manch, which seeks the delisting of converted tribals from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma highlighted the potential impact on peace and harmony in the state.

The Janjati Suraksha Manch, an RSS-backed body, plans to hold a procession and rally in Agartala on December 25 to push for the delisting of converted tribals from the ST category.

Expressing concerns about the timing of the rally, which coincides with Christmas celebrations, Debbarma emphasized that the proposed event on such a significant day could disrupt the peace in the state.

He called for the Chief Minister’s intervention, considering the shared apprehensions from various opposition parties, and requested the cancellation of the rally in the broader interest of the state.

The opposition leader’s plea comes in response to reservations expressed by CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury and Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Asish Kumar Saha regarding the rally.

Both leaders have separately voiced strong concerns about the potential repercussions of the event, aligning with Tipra Motha’s request for the Chief Minister’s intervention to maintain peace and harmony in Tripura.
